TO THE BALLET

Happened to notice yesterday that the Budapest Ballet Academy was performing at the theatre right next to my hotel. I just walked up at the last minute to see if I could get a ticket, and the man I was attempting to communicate with didn't understand a word I said. Finally asked in Spanish where I could buy a ticket and he pointed out the way. The ticket saleslady didn't speak English either, but we somehow managed to understand each other. What she was attempting to tell me was STANDING ROOM ONLY. I figured what the heck. I had no idea what my ticket cost, but I knew it was 30 cents, $3.00, or $30.00. (Turns out it was $3.00).

What great fun the ballet was! First 1/2 was a mixed progam with a lot of very (wonderful) mournful Hungarian music. Second 1/2 was one of the acts of La Bayadere. I'm so glad I made the effort to go. And it was a great treat that three minutes after the program was over, I was "home".

One number was two guys who came out in these Russian looking boots and were stomping around and doing knee slapping. I can't even explain it, but it was SO cool. Reminded me of STOMP, only with people. The audience went crazy for it!

That was quite an unexpected treat.
